Fresh Dates at Osaka Supermarket - Richmond, BC
Fresh Dates ($1.69 per pound)
There is still a pile of these fresh dates at the Osaka Supermarket (a.k.a T & T Supermarket) in Richmond today. I initially found these treats a few weeks ago at the Yaohan Centre location. I’m on my third bag in three weeks. Have you tried?
The season for fresh dates is short. I think it runs September to October for the Red Dates above; which are also known as Chinese Dates or Jujubes.
L.A. Chicken - Richmond, BC
I never came here to L.A. Chicken when I lived in Richmond. I lived just off of Number 3 Road, yet Number 5 Road just seemed so... far away. Lazy, right?
Sometimes when I think back to those days, I have to give myself a big ol’ eyeroll.
I wasn’t planning on blogging about L.A. Chicken, but I have been a patron of this place more times in the past 12 months than I care to admit. I mentioned over a year ago that my work conferences all moved from their traditional downtown Coal Harbour locales to various major Richmond hotels.

Damien's Belgian Waffles Ltd. - Steveston, BC
I’m having a quick breakfast at Damien’s Belgian Waffles in Steveston Village this morning. It’s a tiny little waffle factory located in Chatham Plaza on Chatham Street. (And by “quick breakfast” I mean much, much less than two hours. This will make sense later...) It’s a bit DDE when I scan the strip mall, but once I head inside, the waffle aroma makes me forget about the exterior.
The Crab King - Steveston, BC
I’m at The Crab King today.
I came home, briefly, and now I find myself back in Steveston? I did not plan this. So here I am, again. The weather is crisp and sunny this afternoon. There are people milling about in flip flops! Now, that’s a bit extreme. It’s warmer than winter, but it’s not flip-flop warm.
Romania Country Bread (Storybrooke Bakery) - Steveston Village,BC
The Cannery Cafe (Granny's Diner) - Steveston Village, BC
Once Upon a Time... there were two geeks. One was far geekier than the other, and wanted to visit the fictional town of Storybrooke, Maine.
I haven’t been to Steveston for over a year and I forgot how quaint this area is. Finding parking and browsing the shops is painless at this time of year too, as the village isn’t as crowded as it seems to be during the summer months.
