I hope you all had a thankful Thanksgiving this past weekend.
Now, prepare yourself. As it’ll be all Halloween madness for the next little while. I just spent a long time watching a neighbour inflate a 10 foot animated black Halloween cat.
Here is Troller's Fish and Chips. It’s located on the docks down in the marina on Nanaimo’s harborfront. I run past it every morning, so I decide to drop by at lunch time. It’s open earlier for lunch than most places in the vicinity.
Oyster and Chips ($14.00)
I think oysters will be more interesting today rather than fish. The seafood and chips are made to order so prepare for a little wait for your food. The batter is light, crispy and non greasy.
I am aware that oyster innards aren’t very photogenic, but for those that need to see...here you go. Although the menu states there are 5 oysters in an order, I think Troller’s tosses in extra, at their discretion, if the mollusks are on the smaller side. I happen to receive six oysters today.
Coleslaw is just coleslaw.
I don’t know if Troller's is excited about finally serving Coca-Cola or if they are jazzed about finally serving it with ice???
The location on a clear sunny day is lovely. There is ample patio seating around the little food shack, with many customers today opting to dine in.
Places that float on docks in marinas tend to be touristy and not much else. However, Troller’s offers decent fish and chips with a fun, and seafood appropriate locale to enjoy on sunny days. I guess if you’re going to eat fish and chips, having the backdrop of the harbour really does add to the eating experience.
Troller’s is open seasonally, as most floating food shacks tend to be. So their last day of the season was October 12th. Yes, I realize I am slow in publishing this post and now you are shaking your fists at me because today is the 16th. There will be no Troller’s for you until they re-open for the season on April 1st, 2014. Apologies, but as you know I procrastinate. It seems if I'm not wasting time staring at Baby Seagull Chicks, I'm wasting an absurd amount of time watching the neighbours inflate unusually large animated Halloween characters...
