Heba Supermarket: Samosas - Kamloops, BC
**UPDATE 2014: Heba Supermarket is no more. It is now the home of Joe Pho Vietnamese Restaurant.**
I swung into Heba Supermarket at the crack of noon. I actually arrived a little earlier and patiently waited until the lights flick on at precisely 12:00. I'm not the only one waiting as three others loitered around watching their watches too. We are all here for lunch. We all want samosas.
Before I order my samosas, I make a bee-line to the beverage coolers located in the far corner of the store.
Laziza Malt ($2.50)
Mountain High Pizza Inc. - Kamloops, BC
I had just put a loonie in the meter, only to find out my planned destination is closed this afternoon. Very annoying as I had called less than 24 hours ago and a staff member confirmed they would be open. So with 2 hours on the grey lollipop I decided to take a more leisurely stroll down Victoria.
After all this meandering through the shops, I need a snack and Mountain High Pizza looks like a quick fix. It is more DL’s choice to have pizza today than it is mine. Mountain High has a two slices and a drink deal so we went with that.
Hot n’ Spicy Pizza Slice ($8.75 two slices and a beverage)
The Empanada Lady - Kamloops, BC
The Empanada Lady sets up during the Saturday Farmers Market 8am to 12 noon or I guess until her supplies sell out. This is a food cart located on the east corner of Third Avenue and Saint Paul Street, just outside of the Farmer Market boundaries. I’m not sure if she is officially part of the Farmers Market proper, or if she just rolls with their schedule. You can find her at the Wednesday Farmers Market too on Victoria Street.
Scoopz Ice Cream Parlour - Kamloops, BC
Let’s go for ice cream. Taking advantage of some sporadic sunny days, I found myself at Scoopz Ice Cream Parlour on Lansdowne Street. Scoopz is in the same corner complex as Caffe Arianna and Heba Market.
The Little Photo Shop: Wilf Schmidt - Kamloops, BC
If it wasn't for my love of film, the elusiveness in Kamloops for a roll of 120 and my stubbornness to fully embrace digital, I would have never met Wilf Schmidt. It was always the highlight of our afternoon, to stroll down Third Street and find your shop open.
Thank you Wilf, for generously sharing a bit of your tremendous knowledge with us. So glad to have known you.
How do we look from up there through your Holga?
Hot House Bistro: Breakfast - Kamloops, BC
**UPDATE Sept 2013: The folks behind Hot House Bistro have now closed its doors. However, they also opened the Smokin' Duck Eatery at the Pond Country Market.**
I dined at Hot House Bistro not too long ago for lunch. I knew about their breakfast menu back in March but I wanted to check out their lunch before I tried the breakfast.
Sorriso Ristorante Deli and Pasta - Kamloops, BC
Sorriso Ristorante Pasta and Deli sits on an unassuming corner location on Tranquille Road on Kamloops north shore. I noticed this eatery some time ago when I was orientating myself to Kamloops. Since then, I’ve driven by numerous times on my way to the ”The Craziest Store in Town!” I felt like a deli sandwich today so I swung into the quiet, but ample, parking lot of Sorriso Ristorante.
Kamloops Farmers Market - Kamloops, BC
The Kamloops Farmers Market
The farmers market is back. Happy times.
What a gorgeous sunny morning for the first day of the Kamloops Farmers Market. This section of St. Paul Street is fairly quiet in earlier hours, but became a bit more abuzz later in the morning.
Eggs ($4.00 per dozen extra large or $3.50 per dozen regular size)
Arigato Sushi - Kamloops, BC
Arigato Sushi. I had to step back from this particular entry for a breather and gather my chi before writing this. If you have been reading this food blog since the beginning, you may recall that I have some aversions to eating fish and other seafoods so far away from well, the sea. I know, it’s kinda silly, but that’s what I’m working on.
